Supremely sippable single grain Scotch whisky here from Spearhead, produced at the Loch Lomond Distillery! There's some really rather interesting stuff going on with this one – it's a single grain made with 100% malted barley and given a rather long fermentation time, before being distilled in a Coffey still, and then matured in ex-bourbon barrels. Before bottling, it's given a six month finishing period in a combination of traditionally toasted and infrared toasted barrels. Well worth checking out, this one!
Nose - Stewed summer berries, runny caramel, citrus blossom.
Palate - Still has plenty of sweet fruit notes to it, now with hints of red apple and pear, soon joined by lime zestiness, brown sugar, and cassia.
Finish - Toasted marshmallow, a smidge of oak spice, honey.
